About the Alliance
The
Global Alliance is confronting the challenge posed by obesity and
chronic disease by developing the first global action programme
to address the issues to tackle prevention with a special focus
on childhood obesity. It incorporates five major non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) working closely with the World Health Organization
(WHO), with a dedicated network of active members around the world:

The Alliance is sustained through the voluntary efforts of its NGO partners and national and regional NGO networks. Financial support to establish the Global Prevention Alliance was received in 2005 from the Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon in Montréal, Quebec, Canada; subsequently a small travel grant was donated in 2006 by Abbott Laboratories, Chicago, USA. The Alliance invites contributions from donors towards its long term actions to prevent obesity and support the implementation of the WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health.
